Mary Murphy is an Irish puppet maker and stop motion animator working in the city of Bristol, in the UK. She has spent the past 15 years making puppets, props and sets for a range of stop motion projects such as the award winning Nokia advertisement “Gulp” (Aardman animations, 2012), the music video ''Edith Piaf Said It Better Than Me” (Joseph Wallace – 2017) and the Father John Misty music video Things It Would Have Been Helpful To Know Before The Revolution (Jacknife films – 2016).

Mary has also written a book for young artists and filmmakers – “Beginner’s Guide to Animation” (Quarto publications, 2008) and has organized several puppet making and animation workshops at international festivals and animation events including Animated Encounters in Bristol, Sika film festival in Dubai, and stop motion masterclasses held in Budapest, Hungry.

Alongside her freelance practice, Mary is a senior lecturer in Art and Design at the University of the West of England. She has been teaching all aspects of stop motion production to BA and MA students at the Bristol School of Animation since 2005.
